There is no monthly subscription. You can beat the final missions at your leisure.

If you mean without spending real-life money in the cash shop, then the answer is yes. You do not need to do this to succeed at any part of the game. There is no gear or skill that you can't obtain just by playing the game.
If you mean without earning and spending in-game currency, then the answer is no. You will have to spend gold to buy certain things from NPC vendors or other players. But you will easily earn enough to obtain anything you actually need to play all content. |

Hi,
Yes, you can go through the game without spending any money, except for the initial purchase of the game ofcourse, there is no monthly fees. If you're referring to the upgrades and addons in the game store that requires real money, there is no real big advantage to players who uses them and player who don't. I suppose extra character and extra storage slots can be an advantage, but they are in no way needed to progress through the game. Hope you enjoy Guild Wars |

The one thing you might want to spend real life money on in the online store are skill packs, but most of us never did. I suppose by beat the game you mean finish the main missions in one of the campaigns. Start with Nightfall, pick up heroes and fit them out. Then finish Factions and Prophecies. There is a way to take your Nightfall character and heroes to those campaigns. Then on to Eye of the North and finish that. Sound like a lot? It is a big game, yes. After you have done all that there is still plenty to do. So you never run out of game. And no monthly fee means it is all still there waiting for you whenever you want to play.

Are you asking if you can buy items in the store that you can sell to others for gold in game? The answer no. There is no way to sell in game store items to others for cash in game.Items you buy in the IGS are linked dirrectly to your account. Nothing you can buy in the IGS provides any benefit that you can't earn in game for free, or that isn't purely cosmetic. And buying gold with real world currency is against the EULA. Its a swift ban and a waste of your real world cash. Making money is easy enough, and you will come into more then enough of it in time. I suggest you try the game, its relatively cheap, you won't have to spend a cent once you have the game purchased, and no advantages can be purchased for the game from the word go to the very last thing you do! So best of luck, have fun, and hopefully, welcome to Guild Wars!

Yep..cormac hit it right on. Do NOT by in game gold/items/ecto/zkeys for real life money unless you want to risk being banned. Not worth it. No need to show off (what people that do this basically want to do so badly). If you want to look like a big shot in game...earn it by playing the game (plenty of ways to make money in game).

This game is not really one that you "beat" as such. It's not like Mario Brothers where you get to the end level and it's over.
There are main storylines and final missions that you can "beat", but the game doesn't end there. The game doesn't end anywhere. But, yes, you can play the game without spending any extra money. |

1) cash shop items provide absolutely no advantage, they are purely cosmetic. 2) you cannot trade cash shop items to other players, so you won't be buying items and selling for in-game cash. |

The game has a economy... if you have a nice item (from a drop or from a chest) then you can try to sell it to other players or merchant (npc) for ingame gold. But guildwars also has an ingame shop where you can buy stuff like: skill packs, pet packs, extra character slots, storage panes, costumes, etc. None of these items can be traded... |
